The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) recently defined coral reef restoration as “an active intervention aimed at contributing to the recovery of reef structure, function and key species in the face of increasing climate and anthropogenic pressures, thereby promoting reef resilience and the sustainable provision of reef ecosystem services” (Hein et al. 2020).
