Kiel Marine Science (KMS) is the Centre for Interdisciplinary Marine Science at Kiel University. Associated research groups have expertise in fields such as climate research, coastal research, physical chemistry, botany, microbiology, mathematics, informatics, economics, law, and social science. Altogether, KMS is comprised of over 70 research groups from seven faculties. KMS researchers at Kiel University develop strategies for the sustainable use and conservation of ocean systems www.kiel-marine-science.org. The department of Marine Geophysics and Hydroacoustics is specialized in submarine mapping from ships and smaller boats in shallower waters. One focus is on merging opto-acoustic methods in the shallow zone to produce seamless insights along the cost, with a strong focus on benthic life and habitat mapping. Herefore, the department owns a large pool of hydroacoustic equippment and has a strong postprocessing backpone.
